Earlier this year I had the honor of traveling to Guam to photograph a once in a lifetime destination wedding. On my way to Guam I had a 4 day layover in Japan. Having never been there I chose to stay in the historic village of Kyoto. As a lover of travel, there is nothing like going to a country where you do not speak or read the language. I literally was Lost in Translation.
I had so many wonderful experiences during my short stay here. I took a hike through the mountains and ate delicious food on platforms over a river, rang a shrine bell at the top of a mountain, explored temples, rubbed buddha bellies, sat in a Japanese Onsen with locals, saw Geisha being carted to their evening appointments, learned Shakyo from a Buddhist priest, climbed a LOT of stairs, strolled through a market with so many odd and delicious smells, and wandered through zen gardens in awe of the peaceful beauty this country has to offer.
I look forward to my next visit to Japan and hope to see more of this amazing country and its people. These are just a few of the many images I captured. I am not sure what a lot of these are so if you have any explanations I would love to hear from you!
